South Australian Zoo Welcomes Elephant Putra Mas After Making the Journey From Western Australia
Anyone travelling between Western Australia and South Australia last week would have noticed an elephant-sized convoy, as 35-year-old Asian Elephant Putra Mas made his way on a long-awaited journey from WA’s Perth Zoo to SA’s Monarto Safari Park.
It was a 2,700km journey that took more than 40 hours, with keepers by his side all the way, with his arrival marking the final step in establishing the Safari Park’s founding elephant herd.
Putra Mas joins four female elephants – including former Perth Zoo resident Permai who made the journey across the Nullabor last year.
