Over $2 Million Raised for ‘Bondi Hero’ Ahmed Al Ahmed

It took just 48 hours for more than $2 million dollars to be raised for Ahmed Al Ahmed, the 43 year old father-of-two who risked his own life to disarm one of the Bondi Beach terrorists.

Mr Ahmed’s split-second decision saved countless lives. As reported by Yahoo News Australia, speaking for the first time from his hospital bed recovering from multiple gunshot wounds to his arm and shoulder, Mr Ahmed thanked the community for their support.

He was visited in hospital by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and New South Wales Premier Chris Minns, who labelled Mr Ahmed a “real-life hero”. His courage has also been recognised globally, including by US President Donald Trump, as reported by Global News.

As details about the tragedy emerge, there have been further stories of bravery, including those of the first responders and surf life savers who rushed toward danger to help. Among them was Jacko, the life guard who was barefoot and carrying only what he could as he raced to help.

The wider community also responded with instant generosity. Blood donation centres across Sydney saw an extraordinary turnout, with hundreds lining up for hours to give blood, many for the first time. As outlined by ABC News, community vigils soon followed, with hundreds of people gathering to grieve, reflect and stand together in solidarity. Candles, flowers and handwritten messages appeared at Bondi’s beachfront.
