Australian Man Meets Stranger Who Saved His Life

A Melbourne man has travelled to the UK to meet and thank a stranger, who quietly saved his life three years ago.

Luke Melling was just 28 when he was told he would likely die of Hodgkin lymphoma if he didn’t receive a stem cell transplant soon, and there was no match found in Australia.

Doctors searched registries around the world to track down Lincolnshire man Alastair Hawken who gifted his stem cells to save Luke’s life.

Rescued Eastern Lowland Gorillas Integrate Back into the Wild

In a groundbreaking conservation effort, four female eastern lowland gorillas rescued from the illegal wildlife trade have successfully integrated into a wild group in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The gorillas had been rescued as babies and grew up at a rehabilitation centre, learning to forage and socialise together.

As you can read here, conservationists say it represents the largest-ever translocation of this critically endangered subspecies.

Amateur Farm Photographer Finds Audience Overseas

A young West Australian farmhand is helping capture the beauty of everyday life in rural Australia and is attracting international attention for her work.

24 year old Ellie Morris lives and works in Perenjori, more than 300 kilometres north-east of Perth, and uses her camera to photograph both the beautiful and unglamourous aspects of her days.

She is now selling her photos to customers in Australia and overseas.

Research Fellowship Established in Memory of Michael Mosely

A new research fellowship has been launched at King’s College London, in memory of British broadcaster and science journalist, Dr Michael Mosley.

The fellowship, supported by the Mosley family, will fund metabolic health research and continue his mission to help people live longer, healthier lives.

The announcement coincides with the one year anniversary of Dr Mosley’s death, while hiking in Greece.
