Birthday Parade For Veteran During Coronavirus Pandemic

Fire trucks and police cars led a procession of cars past WWII Veteran Douglas Burgess’ house in Chatham, New York to celebrate his 100th birthday.

Mr Burgess lives in Payne Home and was overjoyed when people from the community came to mark the milestone, while also observing social-distancing during the coronavirus pandemic.

Mr Burgess stood at the front door of his retirement home and waved at the parade of cars, which included emergency vehicles with flashing lights.

His advice for living a long and happy life is to: “do a little bit more than you’re supposed to do and you’ll do better. Stretch yourself and be surprised at how far you go.”
